Objectives:

  1. Students will have a decent understanding of how athletic programs benefit a university

  2. Students will know the importance of athletic programs


Lesson:

  1. Question: How do you think an Athletic Program could help a University?

    a: Ask the question

    b: Take their answers and proceed to the next slide not explaining anything.

     B. Go over how athletic programs could make a University popular.

        a: Talk about Alabama football (Rolltide).

        b: Talk about how when people get into a certain college they are more excited       

    about the athletics rather than academics.

     C. Question: Ask the students if they can name a college athlete.

        a: Ask in anticipation of them saying a Duke basketball player

        b: Not explain anything yet and continue to next slide that covers the players

     D. Go over how athletic programs make universities money.

        a: Talk about Zion Williamson who is a Duke basketball player

        b: Cover how much money Duke makes off of just Zion

        c: Go over merchandise and ticket sales

     E. Go over how Application numbers go up if a universities sports program does good.

        A: Talk about how Doug Flutie himself increased Boston College application           

    numbers.

        B: Watch a video that shows a famous play made by Doug Flutie.

     F.        Ending: End by asking a question “Should student athletes be paid?”

        A: Hope to start a discussion off of that question
