Why is this Important?
Ever since the beginning of college sports, the universities themselves have been keeping all the money made by the student athletes. For some, this is very reasonable and they believe the rule should stay the same, but others believe that the rule should change and that student athletes deserve to be paid. This has become a problem because athletes have complained in the past about how unfair it is that they do not get paid. The issue itself has been talked on many sports shows and has even been talked about on the news. This topic is very relevant in today's society because the NCAA is only getting bigger and bigger by the year. With bigger and better talents entering the NCAA every year, college sports will only get more popular. Just look at Zion Williamson for example, in just his freshman season he got everyone talking about Duke and how they were going to win it all. They ended up falling short of what many believed they would accomplish, but he did make a name for himself and made Duke even more popular than it already is. Zion increased the ticket sales for Duke and the prices that people were willing to pay went up. Just to watch a college kid dominate, I would say it's worth it. He's known as being a once in a generation talent. The growth of the popularity in college sports has led to the NCAA making billions off of the student athletes, but yet again the student athletes get none of the revenue. While the NCAA does have their reasonings for not paying the student athletes it is considered by some to be a great scandal since the college kids have no real way of making an income during their college career.
